This week we are introducing you to the newest member of team Proline – Paul Maggs. Paul joined Proline 3 months ago, following a complete career transformation Paul now works as part of our sales team, working to transform the way professionals work, one workstation at a time…
Let’s jump into the interview.
What are 3 characterises that best describe you?
- Problem solver
Tell us a bit about your career...
My early adulthood was spent traveling the world playing tennis and then working in Germany for 16 months as a tennis coach. I moved back to England (Bristol) in 2001 and started working for Next Generation which is now known as David Lloyd as a tennis coach. Alongside this I started working at Bristol Grammar School teaching a multitude of sports from Netball, Cricket and Rugby. I umpired matches and attended Saturday fixtures for 13 years, which was an amazing experience.
I recently stopped working for the LTA as a tennis performance coach. We would get a team together, then take them away for regionals and if they qualified onto nationals. I loved passing my experience back onto the younger generation. However, having three young boys meant working on the weekends was no longer feasible, so I began searching for my next path.
How have your past experiences, prepared you for your role at Proline?
I have come from a background full of communication, I would be constantly communicating with a variety of people, from teachers to parents, from the age of 3 up to 60-year-olds. I have had to engage them in what I am asking them to do; improve their current skills. I have worked and developed my communication skills to pick and choose when to speak and when to take a stand back and listen. In addition, I join Proline with my very strong work ethic. Being self employed taught me that I cannot just sit back, if I want to see results, I have to work hard to make it happen.
Has the global pandemic taught you anything about yourself?
Lockdown gave me the space to unintentionally reflect on my life and my career. I absolutely loved teaching, but I was ready for a new challenge. When this job came about, I grabbed it with both hands and ran with it; I am still running. Lockdown taught me that my character and my skill set is good enough to take a leap of faith and do something different.
What’s your favourite hobby?
Golf, I really enjoy the walking around with friends having a laugh and it’s a good way of getting some down time.
Are you a morning person or night owl?
Morning person! Life is for living I don’t want to waste any time! I like to go for a walk in the morning - it makes me feel amazing.
