Even though it’s still early days, 2023 is already shaping up to be a great one for UK produced television, with many familiar programmes returning (Think Doctor Who and the final series of The Crown), and lots of very promising brand new series!

Read below to discover the top 5 British produced series arriving in 2023, that we at Proline are most looking forward to…

5. Doctor Who

Doctor Who has been a regular staple in the homes of sci-fi fans for many years now and 2023 brings with it much excitement for a number of reasons. Firstly, Russell T Davies is returning as showrunner to celebrate the show’s 60th anniversary, Davies is credited with propelling the show into a global phenomenon and making it a massive hit. BBC Studios are partnering with Cardiff based Bad Wolf to produce. If that’s not enough to get you excited, David Tennant will also be returning for three special episodes, following the surprise twist at the end of 2022’s final which saw Jodie Whittaker somehow regenerating into the Tenth Doctor.

How to watch: Doctor Who season 14 is set to premiere over the 2023 festive period on BBC One.

4. Great Expectations

Olivia Colman as Miss Haversham and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. This combination sounds almost too good to be true! Knight’s adaptation of Great Expectations marks his second Charles Dickens limited series, with this one telling the famous story of orphan Pip (Fionn Whitehead) and his relationship with the aged Miss Haversham (Olivia Colman). Produced by Scott Free Productions and with Knight’s writing style, this series probably won’t shy away from Dicken’s darker side…

How to watch: Great Expectations will air on March 26th on BBC One.

3. Boiling Point

Critically acclaimed 2021 feature film Boiling Point is being adapted into a five-part drama series for the BBC. Starring Stephen Graham and Vinette Robinson, this drama continues 6 months after the original film and is set in a high-end London restaurant where the head chef (Graham) is struggling with personal issues, awful guests, and much more. This gripping and tense series is sure to have you on the edge of your seat….

2. Rain Dogs

It stars Daisy May Cooper (This Country) as Costello Jones, with Fleur Tashjian, who plays her young daughter Iris. It tells a story of enduring friendships, maternal love, prejudice and poverty. HBO joined the BBC as co-producers on the eight-episode series from Sid Gentle Films Ltd.
